Every year the plants are different. This year the bee balm is going crazy. Last year it was the mullein. The only plants that seem to grow strong every year are poison ivy and nettles, neither like me, but that doesn’t really matter. I still love my walks and bike rides.
On my last walk with Manu the road was blocked by over 50 swans. They are big birds in the water, but even bigger on land. We turned around and gave them some space. Took another road.
My bike ride later that day was eventful as well. I rode to the end of the drive way, and there sitting in the middle of the street was a big old bear. He was just sitting there like a dog. He was probably trying to keep away from the deer flies which are vicious this time of year. Anyway we stared at each other for a while, then he took off and I did as well. I gave him a few minutes to get away and I headed out again. I have to admit I fear dogs far more than bears on my ride.
I encountered three groups of turkeys, moms and little ones. There were maybe 60 or so all together. A walk or ride in the wild is always new and entertaining.
May you always give the swans the space they need.
