Tiny Teeth Tremendous Trouble

reneewpeek

The most devastating creature we have encountered since our move up here is mice. They have cost us thousands of dollars and they are not stopping. Seems they love to chew wires and make their homes in all of our equipment and vehicles.

These devilish beasties have chewed through wires in the cars, the ATV, the snowblowers, and now the lights in the shop. I turned the switch on the other day and all that happened was I heard the breaker switch click over.

I hoped it was only because of the nasty and prolific Japanese lady beetles. With the warm temps those little buggers have been literally coming out of the woodwork. Allen cleaned all of them out of the switches and breaker box but no joy, still no lights.

Short of pulling the walls and ceilings apart he checked all the possible areas of gnawing. We are still trying to figure a way around the problem. It is fortunate this is not the darkness of winter, I can get by without the main lights.

An electrician friend is coming over to verify we are out of luck and will have to run new wires over the walls to get our lights back. I’m wondering if the beast that did this survived or was zapped as he or she ate their way through wires.

Not that it would stop the destruction, there are so many of them. What I don’t understand is why they seem to need to chew on wires. We provide tons of other food for them. I went to pick up a bag of Cheetos from the basement. It was a family sized bag. Knowing it was not lightweight I grabbed a firm hold of it and was shocked as the package compressing in my hand.

It was completely empty. There was the smallest hole in the bottom in the back. Not a crumb remained in the bag. I kind of panicked a bit expecting to see a ginormous mouse with orange lips and hands running at me.

These critters are not to be messed with. Allen calls them ninjas. I have to say I agree. I am not one to kill beasties of the forest but these guys started it.

May you always be wary of the giant orange mouse.
