Snowman?

reneewpeek

Everything is different this winter, even the snowmen. I’m not complaining about not having snow, but we will definitely pay the price this spring. A drought is a bad thing, but it is made exponentially worse when there is nothing green and growing. With all the dry fallen leaves from last fall, the forest becomes a tinder box. We here in the north woods have our fingers crossed for a wet spring and low fire danger.

The goats and chickens are pleased with the lack of snow. I have been able to take the boys (goats) for an outing every afternoon. They walk along with me to put the chickens in for the night, munching dried oak leaves along the way. Each of them will push up against me for petting and scratches.

Once I am headed back to the pole barn all of them run to be first in. I know there are at least two things in this world that will elicit laughter every time. One is listening to the sound of ducks running across a concrete floor. The second is watching goats run. They give me a dose of laughter every day.

They enjoy having their time out and about, but being fainters, they don’t want to venture too far from the safety of their indoor stall. Though they have unfortunately figured out I keep their treats in my shop. If the door is open all three happily come in and wander around. It doesn’t sound like a big deal till you remember they are little poop fountains. I will admit I’m okay with letting them in and just sweeping up all the little beans they leave behind.

May you all, once in your life, hear a duck run across a concrete floor
