Relax

reneewpeek

Just relax, I have had that said to me many times and I have indeed said it to others, but what does it really mean? I am of the mind that it is a very relative action. It is highly dependent on whatever is causing you to be anxious or stressed.

Is it perhaps a conflict at work? Maybe your boss is a clueless individual that has no idea how things actually work. Or it could be you are headed to the doctor. Or perhaps you are waiting for test results from the vet. Or it could be the opposite kind of stress, you’re excited about a vacation or waiting for a fun package to arrive.

Whatever it is, people around you will invariably tell you to, just relax. Since it is so relative a term, I have been trying to zero in on a solid example of what it means to relax, and I finally found it. To visualize true relaxation all you have to do is look at a rescue dog when they finally come to the realization that they are safe, loved, and home.

This is a picture of my own brute, Manu after an exhausting day of running in the woods and sniffing out the trails of all the critters that are living out there. It is amazing to think back to the day we brought him home. It took nearly a half hour of cajoling, comforting, and encouraging for him to finally cross the threshold and enter the house. I can promise you he never completely relaxed for those first few weeks. Now it is his go to move.

May you always feel you are safe, loved, and home.
