Night Magic

For those of you that have had the privilege of spending time outdoors you know there are miraculous moments happening constantly. The more time you are out there the more you get to see. The dark of night however hides some amazing sights.

We have or I should say had (we removed it so this would never happen again) a motion light on the chicken coop to deter the toothy critters of the night looking for a chicken dinner. One night the light went on and unfortunately stayed on. The next morning when I went to let the chickens out, I discovered the reason. Hundreds of moths covered the outside of the coop. Some of them were ginormous. All of them were amazingly gorgeous. They weren’t moving as the morning temps were cool, I had the great fortune of getting up close to all of them.

The Luna moth, the one in the photo, was the most dramatic, but there were some that were pink and blue and one that looked like a dead leaf then there is the Coreopsis with its big eye looking wing. All of these guys fly around in the dark, butterflies of the night. There are miracles out there that few get to see.

The wonder of the aurora lights up the night sky, and the bats, and the owls, and the whippoorwill. There is more happening out there than we can imagine, and it is all connected to us, vital to our continued survival. Nature s amazing.

May nature slow down for you and give you a glimpse of the miracle.
