New Boot Day

reneewpeek

New boot day is always very exciting. Boots have several lifetimes here at Bear Run. They live first as fishing boots. Have to be new for that, keeping the water out and all. We work hard getting to fishing spots, so the boots need to be comfortable and durable.

I once bought this oh so high-tech pair of fishing boots. They had neoprene and other super light weight water proof fabrics. So comfortable I loved them, and there were not cheap. The first time I wore them was the last for fishing. I don’t know if it was the brush we walked through or the weeds, or the cut grass but they let so much freezing water in I had to empty them and ring out my socks. I learned my lesson.

I have since found a reasonably light weight, sort of comfortable, and acceptably cheap brand that works. I buy all the pairs they have in my size whenever I get to that store, tractor supply, one of my favorite places. Like I said these boots first life is as fishing boots. They can usually make it through one season.

Then they move on to chore boots. That is when they get the pretty pink paint. You never want to mix up chore boots and fishing boots, it makes for a long cold day fishing. I have to admit I feel pretty when I wear them just after the painting, they don’t stay so bright and shiny for very long. They get a serious work out as chore boots, cleaning chickens and goats, hauling wood. They get me through late fall and early spring shoveling and slogging through first and last snows.

Once they have been put through chore hell if they are still useful they get cut down to croc shape and become porch shoes. I haven’t thought of anything to do the parts I cut off, I wonder if I could make like flip flops. I hate to waste things.

May you always feel pretty on new boot day.
