Gain or Loss

Updated: Jun 22, 2022

Spring is such an active time for everything. The birds are flying through, they stop for sustenance on their journey. With the ban on feeders, it’s hard for them. We are doing our best to keep things out for them and keep the feeders clean.

The momma turtles are risking their lives to lay their eggs. I have seen so many killed crossing roads but they are driven to do their job. It breaks my heart to see so many nests dug up and the eggs consumed. But then the racoon that ate them can feed her young so it is all perspective really. Nature keeps things in check.

I have been walking the dog in a place that has less mosquitoes. Yesterday I tried to walk down our road but he had over 20 just on his face. I turned back to go home and he laid down and refused. He loves his walks. I had to put the leash on him and nearly drag him back. I think it is a bad mosquito year if I can kill ten in one swat. This is most definitely a bad mosquito year. The sad thing is the gnats and ticks are horrible too.

Anyway the area I walk in has water on one side of the road and marsh on the other. I had stopped with the dog to let a car pass and was looking out over the marsh and a big black bear pops up out of the tall grass standing on his hind legs. I think we surprised each other. I know he surprised me. Thankfully he or she had no cubs so they ran off.

May your eggs always be safe from raccoons
